And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. As it is written, “God scatters abroad, and gives to the poor; God’s righteousness endures.” II Cor. 9:8-9
Many Rockmont celebrations have begun with these simple words: “Dear God, thank you for giving us enough . . .”
The word enough is an interesting word. Standing alone, it does not sound like much – it sounds like barely surviving. But when we say that word at Rockmont, we say it around a shared meal, having played and worked together toward something good. We say it with old and new friends. And we begin to recognize that it is God who has provided. When we say the word enough together, in God’s presence, as part of God’s adventurous people, the word enough becomes more than enough: it becomes plenty.
So, hear our prayer for you this Thanksgiving: May you always have enough to satisfy your hunger, enough to share with others, friends and family and guests to make a celebration, and the grace to recognize God, there, with you. Amen.
