Saturday’s at Rockmont follow a different beat.
Saturday’s are days that are fully focused on games, energy, and fun.
And today was no different! We celebrated the 4th of July, also known as celebrating “the 4th on the 3rd.”
After an action packed first week, campers enjoyed a delayed breakfast which was a well deserved chance to sleep in. Plus they got to enjoy sugar cereal at breakfast before starting their day of fun!
As part of our 4th of July celebration this afternoon, the Camp Directors flew down the Zip Line in red, white, and blue.
Then, Mike Peckham (Camp Director) and Justin Hart (Birch Tribal Director) gave inspiring speeches. And not to be left out of the fun, all six Tribal Directors put on a skit where they were able to recover the Declaration of Independence after it had been stolen by the British. Needless to say, there was a lot of fun to be had!
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Rockmont Driving Range.
The campers hit tennis balls off of Inspiration Point with 9 irons, in search of targets, as part of a relay. It was very entertaining! Several other relay events occurred all over camp (like Polaris Pulling pictured below!), and each tribe crowned a cabin champion at the end.
To round out our day, campers and staff gathered by the waterfront to enjoy a firework show.
As we move into the second half of the session, I am encouraged by the energy and fun that was felt around camp today. The fireworks tonight signified celebration, and we certainly celebrated a great day at camp along with the 4th of July.
