Rockmonts 2019 CCC Director –
Michael “Murph” Murphy
A Rockmont experience isn’t complete without adventure! Thankfully, campers and staff have plentiful opportunities engage with their wild side through many skills and activities. Two of our foundational adventure programs are Camping & Climbing. These programs require a leader who is highly skilled, enthusiastic, and able to usher campers through an adventure. We have found the perfect man for the job and his name is Michael Murphy! Around here, he goes by Murph.
Murph is no stranger to Camp and his leadership has already made waves at Rockmont over the last 4 years! You may know him from his two most recent roles as Tribal Director for the Poplar Tribe in 2017 and the Sycamore Tribe in 2018.
For the last 4 months, Murph has been devoted to ensuring our Camping & Climbing Crew (CCC) is ready to make Summer 2019 the best yet for campers, both in our Climbing Program, and in every campout we will take with our cabins and tribes!
Throughout our Camp-Prep season we’ve often asked in the office, “Where’s Murph?”. It’s a sure bet he’s either on our rock wall setting new routes, or constructing even better ways to operate campouts.
Western North Carolina has a bounty of mountains for climbing, and Murph has spent almost every weekend this Spring exploring as many crags as possible. What he’s most looking forward to this Summer is bridging campers’ climbing experiences from our wall at Rockmont to granite pitches in the Pisgah National Forest. One of Murph’s favorite climbing spots in the country, Looking Glass Rock, is just an hour down the road and he’ll be taking camper climbers there all summer long!
You will be able to see Murph all over Rockmont this summer and he always loves a good shoutout – be sure and give him some knucks when you walk by him. Get ready to be on belay at the wall, and on incredible campouts this summer! We’re only 5 weeks away and we gotta tell you, Rockmont’s Summer 2019 is going to be great.
