Associate Director

James DeMersseman

James followed his big brother to Rockmont in 1982 at the age of 7, starting his journey as a camper in Cabin 1. From 1982 to 1993, he grew through the tribes and ranks, experiencing everything camp had to offer. James continued his journey with Rockmont as staff from 1993 to 1999, serving various roles including counselor, tribal director, and A-Team member. After graduating from Indiana University in 1998, James spent one last summer at Rockmont before embarking on a 25-year Navy career.

Throughout his Navy service, James traveled the world. In 2008, he met his future wife, Bekki, while stationed in Anacortes, WA. In 2010, while deployed in the Pacific Ocean, James proposed to Bekki over the phone, and they married in Reno, NV, six days later. The day after their wedding, James flew back to his aircraft carrier. James and Bekki have three amazing children: Dylan, Harper, and Griffin.

James earned his MBA from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, where the family developed a love for camping and exploring nature, particularly through the National Parks.

The Navy eventually sent James and Bekki to Virginia Beach, VA, where he retired in 2025. While in Virginia Beach, James served over 3,000 hours on the ambulance with the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad as an EMT and held various leadership roles.

Watching his sons thrive and grow at Rockmont has been a joy, and after a 25-year hiatus, James is thrilled to bring his family into the Rockmont community and share their love for the outdoors, adventure, and the growth that comes from embracing Camp Rockmont’s vision and mission.
