Originally from Southern Louisiana, Austin grew up attending summer camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains from the age of six well into adulthood, where he developed a great love for the outdoors and the transformational experiences that summer camps offer.
Austin has served as an educator and outdoor professional for over a decade in various capacities: as a counselor teaching whitewater canoeing and kayaking skills to campers, as a commercial class V whitewater raft guide, as a camp director, as a high school theology and philosophy teacher and football coach, as a youth minister, and as an outdoor high adventure trip guide, leading both foreign and domestic trips for high school and college students that involved backcountry skiing and backpacking, high altitude glaciated mountaineering, and service to local communities and people in need.
From the glaciated volcanoes of Ecuador to the raging whitewater rivers of West Virginia and everywhere in between, Austin has a deep love for working with young people and sharing the outdoors with them, helping them to push past barriers and boundaries they formerly perceived as impassable.
Austin is excited to join the incredible team here at Rockmont. He hopes to build upon the great legacy and Christian tradition of Rockmont to provide young men a space where they can encounter God in His Creation and thus grow in self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and self-confidence so that they leave Rockmont with a greater love and passion for life and for serving those around them.
